Most neoprene is petroleum-based. It's messy, it's hazardous - it goops up sea otters. Matuse's wetsuits are made from Yamamoto rubber, which is derived from 99.7% pure limestone. It is warmer (98% water impermeable) and lasts longer (titanium coated) than standard neoprene. It is also kinder to mother nature since it's made from limestone and does not come from petroleum. Yamamoto's Geoprene technology means thinner rubber is warmer rubber. It not only weighs less, it also allows athletes to focus on the right issues (like better surfing), and fuss less over the wrong ones (like being cold, uncomfortable - and performing like a wet noodle). Good for water temperature down to 60° depending on individuals tolerance to cold.

Why Matuse calls it the Hoplite: The Hoplite foot soldiers of ancient Greece had the most advanced armor of their era. They were fast, fierce and well protected. Modern day surfers can now own thes same suit qualities by wearing a Matuse wetsuit. No spear or shield necessary.
